Applications Open — Summer 2026

See the patient.
Spot the gap.
Build the tool.

Embed in a working hospital. Shadow clinicians. Find the gaps no one's solving. Then build the tools that close them — in 16 weeks at Scarborough Health Network.

Hospital. Real patients.

Most innovation programs start with technology. We start at the bedside.

Before you write a single line of code, you'll spend time inside a working hospital. You'll shadow nurses during shift change. Sit in on family meetings. Watch a physician explain a diagnosis through an interpreter. You'll see where the system breaks — the discharge instructions nobody reads, the alarm fatigue that desensitizes an entire ICU, the 40-minute documentation burden that follows a 15-minute patient encounter.

That's the starting point. Once you've found a real gap, you build the tool to close it. Summer of Vibes is SHN's flagship student innovation program under the RISE initiative. Students work in focused taskforces with enterprise-grade tools — Figma, Replit, GitHub, OpenAI, Claude, Ollama, SHNRI models, cloud GPU — and ship working prototypes by August. Our 2025 cohort delivered 13 at Grand Demo Day.

The program runs May 6 – August 31 at SHN Centenary Hospital. Paid and volunteer positions. No prior coding experience required.
